John volunteers as the Truency Diversion Judge at Johnson Middle School. A program designed to help troubled students remain in school and improve grades along with improving behavior. Upon being honorably discharged in 1982, John had performed nearly 14 years of combined service in the Utah and Nevada National Guard. He received numerous promotions during his military career starting with an accelerated promotion after Basic Training based on his top performance there. John was next recognized as the Outstanding Trainee of his cycle upon graduation from Advanced Individual Training having an overall score of 98.4% in academic and personal performance. During his military service, his commanding officers recognized his ability to learn quickly and teach others and frequently assigned him new and hard to fill duty assignments. During his legal career, John frequently participated in pro bono cases for those who could not afford legal representation. John was for many years a member of the Las Vegas Jaycees who as a group provided community service throughout Clark County He has been a church and Boy Scout leader in various positions over many years.
